I was also having an incident with a Bangkok taxi driver. In the late evening of July the 29th, 2011 my wife and me wanted Mr Narin Guengwong (or someone driving under his name, as he did not look similar to the photograph on the driver ID with the no. 113739) to drive us from Phayathai to the city centre, and he simply did not have any idea where we wanted to go, nor seemed he able to understand any word in English. Showing him a map and pointing to the desired destination was of no use to him. He did not talk to us, but drove us far away from the destination and ccasionally made a U-turn so we could tell that he was cheating us. In the end, we were able to make him stop the car so we could get off, having almost doubled the distance to our destination. We did not pay him any money. Can anybody tell me how I might address the Passenger Protection Centre with this issue in order to check the identity of this driver and his general competence in tourist transportation? Best regards Wendelin

try negotiating the price before you ride. dont use the meter because they'll take longer to get to the destination. watch out for this driver: Teerawan TangPraPunVong

I  arrived one week ago at BKK & took a taxi to the city. I was aware the fare is approximately THB300 however when being ushered into the taxi the attendant (not the driver) said it would be approximately THB700; I advised the driver I wished to use the meter and the fare came to THB272, including the THB50 airport fee!
I departed from BKK last Saturday & had a similar experience although much worse. At the hotel I was loaded into a taxi at approximately 0620 am with my family and told it would cost approximately THB500 however once again I asked the driver to use the meter; he did so reluctantly however what followed was inexcusable. The driver became agitated and drove to Suvarnabhumi at speeds of up to 140 kmh in the 80 zone crossing lanes and I feared for our lives. There were no seatbelts in the back of the taxi available for use and on arriving myself, my wife and 2 small children were agitated & upset from the experience as I never expected to reach the airport alive.
I do not normally complain about service issues however there is a serious saftey concern here as well and I do not feel this driver is fit to be in control of a car with passengers; on this day he appeared to be affected by some other influences. I feel obliged for the safety of others to provide his details.
Mr Somsai Ketchompoo (82962)
I am unsure however to which taxi company he belongs.

i have a tip. Bring all the info you have on where you are going, especially the phone # because you can have an address and a map and they stll might not know where it is. Some taxis are also new and don't speak that great of English. The BTS and skytrain is great for when you are in that area.
