| The villa of San Filippo near Barberino Val d Elsa is the ideal retreat for anyone interested in enjoying the various aspects for which Tuscany is famous throughout the world: its history, art, culture and culinary traditions, combined with genuine and friendly care for its guests. Here in Tuscany the weather is usually marvellous! When rain does make its appearance it hardly ever lasts for more than a few days. For those who are adverse to sweltering hot weather or who like to get away from it all a spring or autumnal visit to Tuscany can be equally as wonderful as in summer, the weather is cooler and the museums and art galleries are less crowded. You get more of a sensation of the place as it really is, as it is experienced by its own inhabitants. The villa has been recently converted into 21 beautiful suites and apartments. Great care has been taken to cater for modern day requirements without spoiling the original atmosphere of the ancient country mansion. The apartments are self-catering and can accommodate from 2 to 6 people. There is also a private restaurant set in what once was the Orangery overlooking the Italian Garden and on the panoramic main terrace, a wine bar for snacks and drinks. Three swimming pools, one of which for children, have been built into the lower terraces. They waterfall one into the other and give the impression that you are literally swimming into the surrounding landscape. The nearby horse riding school will lead you through relaxing itineraries along the typical white stony pathways of Chianti which join the picturesque villages of SantAppiano, San Martino ai Colli and the Sosta del Papa (the Popes rest) along the ancient pilgrim route of the Via Francigena. Our chef is dedicated to maintaining the traditions of the Tuscan cuisine and prepares each gastronomic speciality using genuine old recipes and, of course, the wonderful products and fruits of the land. A unique taste of times gone by, exalted by wine and organic olive oil actually produced here on the surrounding estate .The Cantinetta, which originally housed the huge millstones of the ancient olive press, now gives our guests the opportunity to taste and acquire these farm products: from wine to olive oil, home made jam and conserves Villa San Filippo supplies B&B and half board as well as providing normal restaurant services. Buffet breakfasts (of Tuscan orientation) are served in the breakfast hall, light lunches and snacks on the terrace and dinner in the romantic elegant restaurant or on the terrace with a 360 view of the surrounding hills! The enchanting situation, the courtesy of our staff and the great care for details makes San Filippo a setting of incomparable beauty for wedding banquets and we can provide superb wedding cakes made with experience and skill by our own artistic pastry chef. The Church of SantAppiano, an exquisite example of 11th century Romanic architecture, not far from this corner of paradise, is ideal for a unique and unforgettable wedding ceremony. The happy collocation of San Filippo, (only 4km from the superstrada which connects up to the A1 motorway) makes it very easy to get to places of renowned artistic and cultural interest; Florence (25 minutes), Siena (20 minutes) and many other cities of Tuscany of undisputed historical relevance and tourist interest such as, San Gimignano, Pienza and Montalcino with their famous works of art, squares, shops and boutiques. Also for contemporary Art Lovers, very nearby, there are many beautiful art parks, galleries and artistic realities well worth a visit. |
