Hotel Carlton

| The Hotel is now an Architectural, Artistic and Cultural Monument and its artistic importance is present in every detail. It was the architect Manuel Maria Smith who designed the hotel in 1919. He inspired himself in the French style of the Beaux Arts and in some of the most significant characteristics of other important hotels of the turn of the 19th century. Throughout its history the building has been headquarters to the first autonomous Basque government and the witness to many great social and cultural events. Federico Garcia Lorca, Albert Einstein and King Alfonso XIII are some of the great figures who have stayed in the Carlton. |
