Black Top and Checker Cabs used to be a 3 star company but has gone down the toilet just like all the rest of them - disgusting customer service with one or two exceptions, and the creeps they have driving the taxis are even worse than yellow cab - sure they treat you right if you are a guy - but most of them come from countries where abuse of women is common and they act like they think it is is ok here too - you cant reason with these lowlifes because most of them are not very mentally balanced and - they are vicious. Most also like to try to steal from the customers by not stopping when you ask them to or even tell them blocks ahead. They just have to keep driving that extra half block or more to squeeze every penny they can out of you. Disgusting. I hate having to take a taxi in this city. You have to call dispatch to try to get any help for horrible drivers but these guys are even ruder and nastier and a whole lot less intelligent with zero level manners.

Dear Sir, I have took the black tok taxi from Downtown to airport at 19th-MAY. The taxi meter disply the money not more 30$. But the driver force me 42$. And told me everybody to airport same this pirce. I don't know it is right or not? The HST # 100436724. I keep the cash receipt. Thanks! Shi Mao Ming

I am just writing to inform you that I have reason to believe that after using one of your cabs to take us to Vancouver airport on Tuesday June 7th, my visa card may have been scimmed by the driver.  This was the last time I used my card and since then, I have discovered that all of the money in my debit account has been stolen.  If you wish to pursue this matter, and I would suggest you at least check into it, I can be contacted on the above email address. I still have the receipt with the car number and location details on it.

Had a very nice driver tonight with Black Top. We got stranded by a crappy bus driver and decided to get a cab home; happened to luckily find this taxi. He was very friendly and we exchanged complaints about the bus service. :)

WORST DRIVERS! rude, aggresive, disrespectful... TERRIBLE COMPANY. I'm referring to Checkers Cabs. Don't use this company for your services.

Would advise people to NEVER, EVER depend on this company for your transportation needs!  It has the poorest service I have ever seen for a company in the "service" industry.  We were downtown on Saturday July 24th to watch the fireworks with my family which includes my elderly parents that are 80 years of age.  We phoned for two checker cabs, as we were a party of 6, to pick us up from the Stone Grill Restaurant parking lot (1661 Granville Street) at 11:15 p.m. and recieved an automated answer at 11:20 telling us that the cabs were dispatched and would be there shortly.  Sure enough one checker cab arrived within minutes and went into the parking lot of the restaurant which was our pick up location.  We approached the cab and the driver was very rude to us and wanted to know where we were going, to which we replied the nearest skytrain station.  At that point he rudely told us that he was not there to pick us up and proceeded to leave the parking lot with no fare on board!  We know he was dispatched for us as there were no other people waiting for cabs at that location and he arrived when we were told he would.  The second taxi never did show up!  Just because it was to be a short taxi ride does not mean a company in the so-called "hospitality" industry has a right to callously tell elderly people that they won't receive service!  This was outrageous!  We have found since, that the yellow cabs are your best bet for reliable transporation downtown.  I feel strongly that this driver should be fired for his callous disregard for his job.

I had a horrible experience with Checkers Cab on the morning of the 21st July, 2009, in Vancouver, BC. I had called for a taxi from Yellow Cab (another cab company in Vancouver) for a pick-up at my home. My Yellow Cab taxi arrived promptly. There was a lady named Darlene waiting for her taxi to the airport and said she had been waiting for almost 30 minutes. Not wanting her to be late for her flight, I offered her my taxi, saying I would take hers, which came a few minutes later (just after the Yellow Cab driver had finished loading Darlene's luggage and they were about to pull out). Darlene's cab was from the Black Top & Checkers Cab company (car 91). I explained the situation to the Checkers Cab driver and he immediately began to verbally abuse me. I offered to take his taxi but his verbal tirade only continued. I calmly explained the situation again and asked him to settle down but he simply continued to verbally attack me and the lady. I asked for his name and informed him that I wished to lodge a complaint. The driver refused to give it to me and just drove off after a last few heated words.
 
I realise, of course, that the driver might be upset at losing a lucrative fare to the airport and having a cross-town fare of about a third of the value. However, I had very politely explained why I had given up my taxi to the lady (Darlene) and at no time did I insist that he, the Checkers Cab driver, had to take me. I could have very easily called another Yellow Cab (which I did after this very unpleasant encounter) but I asked if he would take me since he was already here. There was absolutely ZERO justification for the verbal abuse I received. I called Checkers Cab to lodge a complaint and spoke with the Operations Manager who was very accommodating and said that the driver would be dealt with. However, I unable to verify if any action was, indeed, taken.
 
This is not the first time I've had a bad experience with Checkers Cab, which is why Yellow Cab is my preferred company to call when I do need a taxi in Vancouver. I have never had to wait very long for a Yellow Cab and the drivers have all been excellent and friendly. Their service is top-notch and generally worth the 20-30% tip I leave in appreciation for their efficient and trouble-free rides.
