Visitors:
All driving licences issued in EU member states and some other countries are valid providing you have reached the age limits applicable in Cyprus, e.g. 18 for a car. There may be others that are also valid. Check with the DoRT. For all other Countries an International Licence is required. For example you must be 18 to drive a car or small motorcycle

If you are resident and from the EU :

1) You can continue to drive on your FULL domestic licence until it expires.

Providing: the licence was issued by an EU member state, it is valid
and you have reached the age limits applicable in Cyprus.

2) Exchange your licence for a Cyprus driving licence, which is exchanged on a like for like basis.

Please note that you cannot change the address on your EU licence to one outside the issuing Country. It is accepted within the rules that the address will be from the issuing country and necessarily be out of date.

If you are resident and from outside the EU :

Some countries outside the EU have an agreement to exchange existing FULL domestic licences. To see if your licence can be exchanged see Exchange Licences.

When your current EU or National licence expires, it has to be renewed in your country of current residence.

A Cyprus licence is valid until age 70 years before it has to be renewed.

If you do not have a driving licence, or wish to drive any vehicle category not currently on your licence, you have to obtain a Cyprus provisional (learner) licence for that category and pass the Cyprus driving test.

Produce evidence that you have been resident in Cyprus for six months eg. utility bill.

When exchanging your licence, the original and two copies of your national licence (Which

you will have to surrender).

The cost of the Cyprus licence is:

£35 (up to 60 years of age)

£15 (60 to 65 years of age)

Over 65 free

If you are over 70 years of age you will require a medical and a signed form from your doctor stating that you are fit to drive.

The licence is normally valid for three years.

Your full Cyprus licence is valid:

Throughout Europe and in most other countries when going there as a visitor. I am not aware

of any where it is not valid, but it is possible that there may be some.

The licences being issued have the EU categories and EU stars on the cover. It is still paper but plastic licences, similar to UK, are being planned.  Cyprus may go directly to issueing the new EU Licence
