How to become a taxicab driver in Toronto, Canada

Individuals who want to drive a taxi in Toronto need to complete the following steps:

A. Register at 150 Borough Dr., 2^nd Floor that means they will have to:

* pay the course fee of $54800

* complete a registration form

* sign a waiver allowing the City to conduct a criminal check

* present two pieces of ID

* present a class “G” provincial driver’s licence

* demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada

Once registered for their taxi licence in Toronto they will receive:

* a receipt (keep for tax purposes)

* a course confirmation for taxi training and CPR course

* a pre-study package

* a medical certificate

B. Complete a taxicab Toronto training known as “Effective Taxicab Driver Training Program”:

* its duration is17 days long

* it is held weekdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

* it takes place at the Municipal Licensing and Standards Training Centre (located at:

1530 Markham Road, 3^rd Floor)

C. Obtaining the licence to drive a taxi in Toronto

Toronto taxi applicants must:

* have successfully completed all training

* present their First Aid/CPR certificate, it is part of the effective taxicab training driver course

* present a medical certificate signed by a qualified physician

* present a driver’s abstract from MTO, no more than 30 days old
