Free rides home for Durham puntersAuthor: By John Harrington A Durham pub has devised a novel way to offer free taxi rides to customers. Customers at the Reform Place get a cash refund on their taxi ride in — and given the fare home — once they spend four times their fare at the pub. Punters just have to show their receipt at the bar. The deal applies to taxis ordered from local firm Freedom and can apply to journeys from as far afield as Newcastle and Darlington. “In times of economic stringency, when businesses are fighting for trade, you have to show customers you really value them” said pub manager Jemma Watson. “We have to try harder than most pubs, because we are hidden away in the centre of the city.” The pub was recently bought by Head of Steam pub company and is set to change its name to the Head of Steam soon.
